It's time for a new Book of the Month! The September selection goes to a brand new quilt book, Oh, Scrap! (affiliate link) by Lissa Alexander.
After making Regatta
and Saxon this summer,
I reached a point where I really don't want to make a super scrappy quilt for awhile. By that I mean a quilt composed of little, itty bits and pieces leftover from other projects, sewn together to make a larger chunk of fabric.
But here's the problem: I have a lot, and I mean a lot, of old fabric that is perfectly useful but just not inspiring. Sure, I could sort through it and give some away, but I did that massive clean out in the spring.
I'd rather try to use it up, much like I did for Leaf Piles. Though there was older fabric in that quilt, it came out beautifully.
When it comes right down to it, I think I'm happier making controlled scrappy quilts, like Leaf Piles and like the one that's on the cover of the book.
These are really more my scrap style. Of course, my style also consists of using many different fabrics of one color or value too - I do like that variety!
Happy Quilting!
I have been tempted to get that book but keep passing it up thinking there are probably a lot of patterns in it that I already have patterns for in other books -l do let us know if that is the case or if some are more "original" than others. I guess what I do is "controlled scrappy" as I rarely sew a lot of pieces together to make a piece of fabric to use. I just never put a name on it. Looking forward to seeing what you make out of this book and just might pick it up while traveling if I see it
ReplyDeleteYour leaf piles quilt inspired me to buy the book. I am not a fan of sewing little pieces together. I'll be interested to see everything you will be up to on your list though.
