Creating a Quilted Legacy

Today's post is on honor of Paula Budinger, also know as Paula B Quilts, who passed away February 8, 2020. Janice of Color, Creating, and Quilting is hosting this special blog hop to honor Paula's memory.

Paula was fond of bright colors, and making quilts for kids through Project Linus. To honor that, I have two bright kid's quilts to share.

The first up is Burst, a new, fun pattern, so named because of the burst of color coming from the center of the quilt.

Paula would have loved all of these bright colors on the black background, as do I, though any other color would work just as well.

Burst, as a baby quilt, measures in at 42" x 42". The Burst pattern also includes sizes for crib, lap, twin, queen - that's a lot of quilts! This little guy sports the Passion Fruit pantograph quilted in a variegated thread. Definitely keeping with the multi-colored theme!

The backing is a multi-colored ladybug fabric from my stash, which works absolutely perfect here.

And the second quilt, Jax, is a fun, random setting that reminds me the game Jacks.

This one, too, looks great on a black background, but would look terrific with blue, grey, or even black-on-whites. Hmm, there may be another quilt or two in my future!

The backing on Jax is colorful too, full of all sorts of construction trucks.

Believe it or not, it also uses variegated thread and the Passion Fruit pantograph, but the flowers are turned into stars by quilting straight lines and omitting the center loop.

Paula would have been so happy, don't you think?

Happy Quilting!

  4. I love quilting, but due to the cost, I love making more lap quilts. They are great for decorating and I love throwing them over me on a cold winter night, while snuggling on the couch.

  6. Seems like my favorite quilt size is a lap quilt. Although I have made lots of baby quilts too. I use a long armed, so lap quilts and baby quilts are more affordable! And, I like to get them done!

  24. My favorite size is probably a table runner, but my favorite quilt that I've made was for my dad a couple of years ago. Red, cream & blue because he was in the service. He turns 93 on May 15 and still lives alone. Very proud of him!

  30. I especially like to make lap quilts. I think they get used the most. Your two quilts are way too beautiful! I don’t see with black very much because as I’ve aged, it became more and more difficult to see. But I sure do love it. And Paula would, too! XO

  38. What fun! I love to make landscapes but I see that isn't one of the choices so I will have to say lap quilts. Thank you for inviting us to visit, and what a great way to honour a quilting friend.

  39. I tend to make throw sizes or bed quilts. I like something I can curl up in.

  40. Judging from the number of them I make, I would have to say throw size, but always a quilt. I don't do many runners and nothing else, really. Your two baby quilts are very inspiring. I love black as a background and the thread you used carried the color right into it. I like the way the colorful backs carry out the theme of brightness.
