Welcome to Christmas in July! I'm going to celebrate Christmas this year with a Reindeer Wreath full of Santa's crew, and featuring Rudolph front and center! Check it out at https://www.etsy.com/listing/833335670/reindeer-wreath-christmas-wall-hanging
Yes, Rudolph and the gang make up this fun wreath of deer appliques of black and white checks, set in red to match Rudolph's nose! Holly and berry quilting motifs complete the wreath idea.
This adorable quilt is newly designed for the Christmas in July Then and Now blog hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. See https://www.justletmequilt.com/2020/07/christmas-in-july-then-and-now-blog-hop_27.html
I've teased everyone plenty over the last week or so, especially with the Tips and Tricks for Fusible Applique tutorial, https://www.quiltfabrication.com/2020/07/tips-and-tricks-for-fusible-applique.html. Has anyone noticed the deer are looking to the right in this quilt? Due to a last minute layout change, the deer I used for the tutorial was set aside and new heads made looking right. It was definitely the right decision!
Though the holly and berries look like a freehand design, they were actually quilted with paper templates. With the templates, I could lay out the design on the quilt beforehand, even adding a few extra leaves or curls here and there to fill empty space. Check out this short video, https://youtu.be/eShxHm087kU showing the quilting with paper templates, which can be done with either a domestic or longarm machine - easy peasy!
Being that the Reindeer Wreath is just so charming - I had to make a pattern! Not only is the pattern beginner friendly, with a full size reverse deer template, detailed instructions, and quilting ideas, but it is also at a blog hop special price right now through Friday, August 7. Get the pattern now at https://www.etsy.com/listing/833335670/reindeer-wreath-christmas-wall-hanging so there's plenty of time to finish for Christmas enjoyment!
Since this is a Christmas in July Then and Now theme, and I've covered the now - let's move onto some then. These are just a few of my past favorites:
and an all-time favorite, Winter Feed at https://www.etsy.com/listing/571014522/winter-feed-wall-hanging-bird-feeders

ReplyDeleteI like your reindeer quilt and the quilting is lovely. I haven't used papers yet--maybe I need to try them. Thanks for sharing "then" projects too. I enjoyed them all.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how some things look better facing one way over the other isn't it! But I agree the deer needed to look to the right:) Very cute.
ReplyDeleteAs usual I love all your projects. I especially like Winter Feed.
ReplyDeleteThese guys are just too cute. I love the quilting and that you included it as part of the pattern. Many times I get stuck for quilting ideas!

Your reindeer wreath quilt may have a modern design to it, but I think it's a classic! Your Christmas table runners are also fun and sweet. I'm going to check out your paper pattern quilting technique - the quilting on your reindeer wreath is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery cute Reindeer. I love me some gingham! You made quilting around the papers look so effortless. I don't know if I'll ever have that kind of control on my longarm.:(
ReplyDeleteYou totally rocked that reindeer wall hanging with design and fabrics...I love it! Who wouldn't want that hanging on their wall! Your "then" projects are all my favorites and someday I will sew that bird house one. Thank you for sharing your then and now with us, Susan! xo
ReplyDeleteLove your Reindeer Wreath quilt design. The gingham on the deer is perfect, modern and vintage looking at the same time. The other projects are fun too. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! I love the surprise of Rudolph's nose, and the black and white plaid on red. You have some wonderful patterns!
ReplyDeleteYou come up with the cutest designs! Red with black/white plaid is a great combination for the winter season. Rudolph is my favorite, of course!
ReplyDeleteOhh, Susan I love all of these designs! So clean, cheery and fun. Love the birds.

ReplyDeleteIt is nice to finally see the reindeer quilt after all the teases that you have out there. Great table runners.
ReplyDeleteLove the runners, but the Reindeer are adorable.
ReplyDeleteLove the reindeers ... and the table toppers! Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSusan, your work is outstanding. There's nothing you shared that wasn't wonderful. The reindeer in the checked fabric is perfect and the quilting on the red is just the right touch.

ReplyDeleteYour holiday projects are SEW cute, Susan! LOVE those Rockin' Reindeer!!
ReplyDeleteYour Reindeer quilt is wonderful. Thanks for the link on the paper quilting. Your pieces from the past are great my favorite is the O'Tannenbaum table runner.
ReplyDeleteI love, love your reindeer quilt! The black and white really makes it pop!
ReplyDeleteThis is really a project to be proud of, Susan! The gingham is perfect for those reindeer, and the simple three-color palette gives the quilt a classy and modern feel. And I agree: the reindeer are best looking to the right. I think the reason is how we "read" quilts -- usually, from the top left to the bottom right. The reindeer are looking in the direction our eyes naturally move when viewing a quilt. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYour deer are adorable - I love the gingham fabric you chose (and Rudolph's nose!). It was fun seeing your previous projects too especially the cardinals. Thank you for inviting us for a visit.
ReplyDeleteYour reindeer are adorable!!!

ReplyDeleteGreat job on this quilt and so much fun. Love the plaid reindeer and the older projects are great too! Of those, my favorite may be the cardinal.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish! I love the Rudolph in the center! Your cardinal quilt is lovely - reminds me of my mother....she loved cardinals...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt! Love the off set blocks as well as the red nose in the center.
