C&T Publishing has been kind enough to send books my way for review, so let's take a look at the Dazzling New York Beauty Sampler book (affiliate link) by Cinzia White and have a little giveaway.
Turns out, the block with it's distinctive curves and points originated in the Southern United States. It was only after Mountain Mist released a block pattern by the New York Beauty name, plus several winning quilts using the block in the 1930's, that the block design and New York Beauty became synonymous. Check out this New York Beauty post from Willy Wonka Quilts to read more.
In the Dazzling New York Beauty Sampler book, there's certainly a lot more than one block design. This is, after all, a sampler quilt, with a total of 54 blocks. That would certainly keep one busy!
The above picture is just an overview - head over to the Dazzling New York Beauty affiliate link to see further block detail, more than what I can provide here.
All of the blocks are foundation pieced, with full-size templates included. Cinzia even recommends using freezer paper for easy construction - my favorite!
Along with the instructions for making this beautiful quilt,
Good Luck!

ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to make a New York Beauty piece. I had no idea of the history of the name. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

I spent time in the 26th Army Band stationed at Ft. Wadsworth, Staten Island in the mid-70's and we made a couple of trips to Liberty Island to play for various happenings at the time. Didn't get to stick around to go through it, but still a fun time. (And I LOVE Cinzia White!! I have her other book.)
ReplyDeleteThe last quilt kit my mother gave to me before she died was a New York Beauty wall quilt. I've loved NYB blocks and quilts ever since. This would be a great book to own for my quilting library.
ReplyDeleteI entered your giveaway. I have never entered one before. I love paperpiecing, but have not done a new york beauty. I also love sampler quilts and have made many samplers. This would combine many of my loves into one. Thanks for the opportunity to enter and a chance to win.
ReplyDeletePaper piecing is one of my favorites, and I love sampler quilts where you learn new techniques. New York Beauty in sampler quilt of patriot fabrics = WINNER!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this book. I had never thought of New York Beauty being a sampler quilt. Paper piecing certainly has it's rightful place in the quilt universe! I've made my own several times to get perfection!
ReplyDeleteA New York Beauty is on my list of quilts to be made. The book looks wonderful! Thanks!
