Midweek Makers 295

Welcome to Midweek Makers - so glad you can join us!

I have several shares today, a couple client quilts and a dog quilt update.

First the clients. Below is one of four Bargello hearts I quilted last week for Tami.

She is such an expert at stitching these hearts, and choosing a gorgeous heart pantograph for a beautiful finish.

This black and red quilt was for Robin.

She a relatively new quilter and did a great job piecing this lap quilt from leftover strips.

And my last share is a Good Dog update. I've squeezed in time between quilting to make the bone and tennis ball blocks - borders are almost done. After that, all that's left is a bit of applique.

With aqua seeming to be the featured color this month, did you see these quilts with aqua in them last week?

Grace and Peace quilted this beauty, JoJo, for a fellow quilter,

Kathy of Hazel's Daughter created a lot of items from aqua scraps - love that table topper!

and Quilting Gail shared her 2021 Mystery quilt.

Now it's your turn! Come share what you're working on -

  • please link directly to your post
  • please link a quilt related item
  • visit with the others and leave some comment love
Have fun!

More Dogs!

Thank you to everyone who joined in to celebrate National Dog Day with me! Though the party may be over, I have a puppy update, winners to announce, and poll results.

First, my update - Good Dog now has a few very tempting bones to chew on.

Soon, these bones will be part of a wall hanging along with the Good Dog blocks. I can't get enough of dogs right now!

Let's wish a big congrats to the winners from the National Dog Day celebration. Kathy won a copy of the Good Dog pattern, and Julia, a Puppy Tales pattern. Rosie, an avid paper piecer, says she enters a lot of contests but hasn't won in a long time. She got lucky this time, winning Mary Hertel's Paper Piecing All Year Long book - yay! (affiliate link)

For fun, here's the results of the questions from the giveaways:

Making the National Dog Day Quilt Linky Party an annual event.   The overwhelming response was YES! I would love to do this again and will mark my calendar for next year - hope you do too!

Bandanas: yes or no.                                                                                      It also seems that Po, my grandpuppy, is unusual in that he ALWAYS sports a bandana. From the answers, most dogs don't like them, nor do their humans. Though in regards to bandanas vs the Santa hat on the Puppy Tales applique, the big favorite was bandanas.

Last but not least was the preference for applique, paper piecing or regular piecing when making a dog block. Both paper piecing and regular piecing were the winners here, with applique very close behind. I'd call it all even!

With one party down, there's still one to go - National Cat Day, October 29. Get your cats and quilts ready to celebrate, and spread the word.

National Dog Day!

It's here - National Dog Day - the day to celebrate dogs! Come link up your posts about those special dogs in your life, real or in fabric!

cute dog surrounded by a paw print

The linky party is open today, August 26 till midnight, Saturday, August 28 with guaranteed cuteness! Really, who can resist adorable puppies??? Keep reading to see my new fur babies and enter the giveaways!

Over the last week, I had a litter of my own - in fabric, that is. Meet the Good Dog, a block pattern now available in my QuiltFabriction Etsy shop.

three different colored dog quilt blocks

Aren't these just too cute? I had fun with the colorings - there's the classic white and black dog,

a grey/black dog with a white chest,

and a cream/brown dog, also with a white chest, to round out the litter.

Per hubby's request, I made the Good Dog ears floppy, choosing to stitch a pink fabric to the underside then stitching the ear just at the top. Of course, the ears could easily have been fused down.

As for the size, the Good Dog quilt block measures in at 12.5" x 12.5".

Just too darn cute!!

These pups have made me so happy over the last week! The Good Dog block was something I drew up years ago, and now could finally make after purchasing the Crafters Edge 3.5" and 6.5" Drunkards Path dies, plus a 7" ruler.  Of course, those rulers and dies aren't necessary as the pattern includes templates for them.

Want to win a free Good Dog block pattern? Just enter the Rafflecopter giveaway. The winner will be sent a Good Dog pattern via email - good luck! (This giveaway has now ended)

Though I have cats, I do have a grandpuppy, Po. He currently lives in Boston but will be moving to Durham, NC in a few months. Here he is at his birthday last December, wearing the bandana I made him to celebrate his special day.

Birthing the Good Dogs took longer than I expected, so I didn't get to make the Puppy Tales applique dog that looks like Po, pictured below in brown. Po does love wearing bandanas!

Until I get to that, the Puppy Tales applique dog pattern is not only available in my Etsy shop, but it's also the feature of the next giveaway - just enter via Rafflecopter! This too will be emailed to the winner.

And the doggy fun continues! For those who love paper piecing, I'm giving away Mary Hertel's Paper Piecing All Year Round. (affiliate link)

Included inside is - you guessed it - dogs to paper piece!

To win, enter via Rafflecopter below. This giveaway is open to continental US residents only - no Alaska, Hawaii, or International entries. Shipping is via USPS.

Now, let's get on to the party and see everyone's pups!!

Midweek Makers 294

Welcome to Midweek Makers! Hope your ready to share your projects today, and share your dogs on quilts tomorrow - I can't wait for both parties!

I'll have a new puppy to share, plus a few giveaways. While we wait for that, I need your help.

Over the past 4-6 weeks, I've had issues with my blog post pictures randomly not showing up in my Bloglovin daily digest, or in the post listings on the main Bloglovin site. For those of you who follow me through Bloglovin, are you seeing the pictures from my posts in the Bloglovin daily digest?

Bloglovin has not responded to my help requests, and we're at a dead end as to how to solve this issue. Which makes me wonder - is it just me that's not seeing them, or is every follower not seeing the pictures too? Any feedback you can give will help!

With those bits of housekeeping out of the way, let's take a look at some of the finishes that caught my eye last week.

From Grace and Peace Quilting, this lovely QOV,

from Donnalee Quilts, a long awaited Drummer Boy finish,

and this fun car quilt from Melva Loves Scraps.

Now it's time for this week's sharing - come link up your quilt project!

  • please link directly to your post
  • please link a quilt related item
  • visit with the others and leave some comment love
Have fun and I look forward to celebrating the dogs tomorrow!

Reminder: Celebrating Dogs

Heads up! Are you getting ready to share your love of dogs this week? There's plenty of time to grab those puppies (real ones or in fabric), snap some pics, write a post and link up on Thursday, August 26 for National Dog Day!

Did I mention there will be giveaways? And of course they'll be dog related!

I'm keeping today's post short so I can put the finishing touches on a special puppy quilt block which I think you'll truly enjoy. I'd give a couple of sneak peeks but he's still in the scrap fabric stage so he doesn't look his best. You'll just have to come see on Thursday!

For all you cat lovers, hold tight - your day is coming October 29.

Happy Quilting!

No Mark Triangle Quilt Motif

As promised, a new video on how I quilted the diamond/triangle motif used on Qubix.

This motif looks so pretty, especially on that star fabric! And yes, you read it correctly - no marking was involved to quilt this motif. It's all about putting ruler lines to good use.

That's what this tutorial is all about - how to use ruler lines as reference points to stitch a design. Check out my No Mark Triangle Quilt Motif video to see this diamond/triangle design stitched out in real time.

***

As far as rulers go, my favorite is the 2" x 7" Little Girl longarm ruler by The Gadget Girls, who unfortunately, have retired. But the ruler is still available through Hab and Dash, my favorite thread supplier. I like it because it's easy to control, and comes with several 1/4" lines horizontally, a few vertically, and 2 lines at 45 degree angles, all just enough to help map out a quilt design.

Those ruler lines plus the block corners are all I needed to create this motif. Starting my stitching 1/4" away from the sashing, in the center of the triangle, I liked the angle that occurred for the next stitching line when positioning my ruler edge at the block corner.

Then it's the customary stop 1/4" away from the seam, creating echo lines.

For the mirror angle on the other side, the stopping location is total guess-work. I'd rather stop short, test my ruler measurement/placement on that side to see how much further I need to go before starting the angled stitch line.

Once everything is lined up with the corner and the center point, the stitching can continue. And now I have a diamond shape in my triangle.

For the triangles on the sides of the motif, I played with the angle I wanted, taking note of where the block corner was in relation to the ruler lines. For this size block, it's 1 1/2 lines. I'm also using the ruler's 45 degree line to help placement.

That's an easy line to stitch, again stopping at the seam, echoing, then continuing with an echo along the sashing to get to the other side of the block.

Once again, it's guess-work as to where to stop but the ruler lines come in handy for placement. In this case, I was a couple stitches short, so after adding those, stitching the last angle to complete the triangle was a breeze.

Here's the motif again - oh so simple yet perfect for the space.

I hope this pretty little diamond/triangle motif has served as inspiration for using more rulers in your quilting.

Happy Quilting!

Midweek Makers 293

Welcome to Midweek Makers - we're going to jump right into the party! I've got my RSC2021 aqua blocks to share - love the aqua!

aqua scrap blocks

I worked in some triangle scraps, along with some that look like they've been in the scrap bin for too long - don't you just love those fold lines? No matter how much I pressed, they wouldn't come out. I'm hoping eventually that will change.

Speaking of triangles, how about these triangle themed projects?

There's Hope, from Scrapbox Quilts,

a pretty blue star (made with triangles, mind you) from Gretchen's Little Corner,

and these long, sharp triangles from Sew Preeti Quilts.

I'm also including these pineapple blocks from Karen's Quilts, even though the points are cut,

while Making a Lather made some fish from triangles,

and last but not least, a Dutchman's Puzzle quilt at Viridian's Blog, full of triangles.

Now it's your turn to join the fun!

  • please link directly to your post not your home page
  • please link a quilt related item
  • visit with the others and leave some comment love
And don't forget about the special National Dog Day linky party next Thursday, August 26 - get your dog-themed posts ready!
