Though a week late due a family emergency for the hostess, this month's Quilt Block Mania is finally here and it's for the birds!
Yes, the theme is 'birds' this month and I'll admit - I love my Flying in Formation block! Not only is it easily made using flying geese, but in the chosen Toucan themed color scheme, it really pops!
With flying geese, very cheery colors, and Navy fighter jets recently zooming out of Moffett Field on practice flights, together they all jump started my inspiration for this block. I chose a basic flight formation, seen below, consisting of 5 planes (or birds) in an inverted V design, and thus, the basis of my design.

My Flying in Formation quilt block is perfect for the beginner quilter. Fat quarters are that's needed for one block, and the cutting and sewing is as simple as could be. The block has an unfinished size of 12.5" x 12.5", and when sewn into a quilt, it finishes at 12" x 12".
