Midweek Makers 342

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

This week, the features are all about me. As you know, a new property purchase has taken away my quilting time and directing it to yardwork. Over the last 7 months, we've gone from a yard overgrown with ivy, opportunistic trees, invasive trees, dead trees, tree stumps, fences, and dumped stuff to one that is now cleared and ready for it's makeover. Take a look at all the progress!

Eventually, the tree on the left will go. It's an opportunistic walnut which is too close to a building foundation. Nice tree, but just not there, as was the case with a lot of the trees.

The fig tree is sooo happy to be released from it's ivy cocoon. It has put out a ton of fruit and keeps sprouting new growth on the branches. It's definitely a keeper!

And in the very back, all of the straight, tall invasive Blackwood Acacia (plus roots) is gone, exposing the second apple tree (white arrows), and a large, struggling walnut at the very back. We're giving that tree a year to see if it recovers.

The next area to tackle is the ravine, cleaning up the slopes and putting in retaining walls. Still a lot to do!

Now it's time for this week's party - who has something to share? Hopefully heat waves and vacations (or yardwork!) haven't put a cramp on your quilting!

  2. Wow! You have accomplished so much. That is hard manual labor, but it must feel so good to look at the results.

  6. Hi Susan, what amazing work you've been doing. I just have a few feet of clearing to do in my back yard but with the heat wave and dog sitting, it hasn't happened yet - but I'll be at it as soon as the weather cooperates. It will be a small meditation space with a fountain. Can't wait to make it happen. Good luck with the ravine - that sounds like a lot of work!

  8. What a transformation! We are doing that with our new place as well (moved in last September). Ours isn’t so much overgrown as the fact that previous owners planted shrubs - no doubt small at the time of planting - that grew too large for the space. We are slowly taking them out.
