For my Cabin in the Woods, I channeled my childhood home, a brown house nestled in the woods of Maine. Ours was more of a ranch than a cabin, but still, the thought is there.
Though this block uses paper piecing for the roof and tree, it's pretty easy to put together. I even give hints on fabric pieces to cut for the tree, which with those angles, can be a bit tricky.
For one block, fat quarters or scraps work great. To save on fabric, I recommend that the sky fabric be a solid. That way, both pieces of a rectangle can be used instead of wasting a triangle set because of a print. The block finishes at 12" x 12", and is now available in my Etsy Shop.
Happy Quilting!

this is wonderful. Where I lived in the Mojave Desert on a ranch we had all kinds of trees that surrounded our house. And then behind the house we had nine peach trees. Yumm. Thanks for sharing and for bringing back memories that are precious. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net
