Midweek Makers #393

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I do wish I had something to share besides everyone's favorite summer quilt, Seafarer, seen above. But sciatic nerve issues still plague my right leg, affecting the ability to run a sewing machine - ugh. Fortunately, I can use the longarm with no problem, but using a foot pedal is not in my best interest right now. Soooo hoping this goes away.

Until then, I'll content myself with highlighting the quilts of Midweek Makers guests. This week, we have Grace and Peace with a Villa Rosa flannel quilt kit top,

Here's the second project I quilted for Marie, a very cute paper-pieced cactus garden with custom quilting. Just enough to not overdo it.

Midweek Makers #391

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I got a chance to quilt up one of two projects for a client last week, running the machine before the heat set in in the afternoon. Isn't this sweet?

I'll share the second project next week after a few more days of healing from a second round of cortisone shots in my back for sciatica. And that's the damage for all that yard work last year. Ugh.

Several visitors to last week's Midweek Makers shared their sweet projects too.

Bell Creek Quilts added a bit of teal to her rail fence quilt, giving it a nice pop,

Scrapbox Quilts showed off her 24 Karat Koby QAL,

and Quilt Chatter is happy to have an RSC project finished - well done!

Rotary Cutter for July Quilt Block Mania

Can you tell that the new Quilt Block Mania theme is quilting? And the tool that has made the biggest impact on the quilting world? The Rotary Cutter!

According to Olfa, a major manufacturer of rotary cutters and additional tools, the rotary cutter was invented in 1979 by Yoshio Okada. It completely revolutionized the quilting industry, forever changing how quilters cut fabric. Not only was it a time saver, but it also created more accurate cuts over the use of hand scissors. The quilting world would never be the same!

Of course, numerous other inventions came along to augment the rotary cutter - specialty mats, rulers, and specialty cutters. Those items, along with myriad others, have created a wonderful world just for quilters. So let's take a look at the other quilting themed blocks created by my fellow Quilt Block Mania designers.

All of our blocks finish at 12" x 12", which will make for a fantastic quilt themed quilt. My Rotary Cutter just needs scraps or fat quarters, some fusible web, and the ability to applique - pretty simple. 

The pattern includes a full size template to print out, spread over four sheets of paper. Just tape them together, using the reverse of the pattern for tracing and the print side for placement. Easy-peasy!
