Midweek Makers #441

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

One of my favorite holidays is next week, the Fourth of July. So I took a little license with the RSC2024 June blue color choice, using my patriotic prints to make a few more scrap box blocks. Here's an under-bed box block,

and because I have a lot of patriotic prints, a second, tall box. Notice there are only four fabrics that are in both boxes. And these are just from scraps, not any of the yardage I have. I do love my red, white, and blue!

Keeping with the blue theme, these quilters shared their blue projects.

From Gretchen's Little Corner, there's blue pineapple blocks,

Little Penguin Quilts made a blue heart block,

and Not Afraid of Color continues making these fabulous blocks for RSC2024.

Midweek Makers #440

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

This week I have an under-bed box block of blue to share. Still hardly making a dent on those scraps!

I could make more, but I've been spending my time setting up blog posts, designing blocks for QBM, and making said blocks to test the patterns. All that tedious background work that goes into blogging and quilting, invisible to most. But it's worth it in the end!

Last week's party had some fun items that caught my eye. Time for Stitchin finished her 2022 Stay at Home Round Robin - yay!

Viridian's blog finished her Dutchman's Puzzle quilt in 30's repros.

And Bell Creek Quilts made some Chap Stick fobs for my favorite lip balm, Vaseline. Yes, the Vaseline tube is bigger than Chapstick, and sad it won't fit in the fob a friend made me years ago.

Nice work everyone!

Midweek Makers #439

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I'm home and it feels great! Some of you wanted to see the bath remodel at my son's house. Here's the room before.

Not too bad, though I just read in an interior design article that said 'muddy yellow in a gray room never works'. But the color scheme is really the least of the problems.

A small issue was the whirlpool tub. Over several years, who knows what's been growing in the tubing and jets. Could have given it a deep clean but an even bigger issue was the 3 foot diameter circle of dry rot around the toilet that was spreading under the tub and threatening to cave in the floor. Here's the room gutted, with all the dry rot removed.

After 12 days and an expensive replumb, the bathroom now is a fresh and modern space! With a very solid floor, I might add. Yes, hubby and I did this.

So now I'm home, doing a bit of sewing. Since the RSC2024 color for June is blue, I've made up a light blue tall box to go with the others.

Maybe next week I'll put these blocks up on the design wall so everyone can see where this is going, and what I have left to fill in.

Enough about me, let's see some highlights from last week!

Julie's Quilts and Costumes got to try freezer paper piecing (my favorite!) on a jewel block,

Busy Hands are Happy Hands turned a flimsy into a shower curtain, (I should show this to my DIL!)

and Anja Quilts created this striking version of Luminous Layers.

And once again, Blogger will not let some of the text link, nor will it enlarge the images. Ugh. But let's still have a party -what do you have to share this week?
  • please share a quilt related item

Have fun!

Link Works for Mountain Block

The link for the Purple Mountains Majesty block is now working - thank you for your patience! Just click on the block picture to go to the download.

I have no idea why Blogger cannot hold on to a link when a post is written in advance. This is certainly not the first time the inserted link has not launched with the post. Of course, it doesn’t help that I’m away from my computer and trying to deal with the issue using an iPad mini - it’s just not the same!

So, again, thank you for your patience and enjoy!

Midweek Makers #438

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I have nothing to share this week unless you want to see a pictures of a full bathroom remodel. Yes, hubby and I planned a visit to the newlyweds home, to fix serious dry rot. We’ve had to extend our stay to get it done, so I should have something quilty to share next week. But if you really want to see remodel pics - just let me know!

From last week, Making a Lather showed a very shimmery quilt,

Little Penguin Quilts made Paducah Stars, her version of Luminous Layers,

and Gretchen’s Little Corner shared her Radiant Blues flimsy.

So what do you have to share this week?
  • please share a quilt related item
  • please link directly to your post
  • visit the other guests and leave some comment love
Have fun!

Purple Mountains Majesty for June QBM

The Quilt Block Mania theme this month is 'mountains' and I've created a beautiful scene of snow-capped mountains surrounding a tranquil lake in my Purple Mountains Majesty quilt block.

It fits right in with all the other mountain themed blocks, making for a terrific mountain themed quilt. Or pick and choose and make your own nature themed quilt!

Here's the list of the other mountain designers - be sure to thank them for their generosity!

Snow-Capped Mountain by Carolina Moore
Mountain Tunnel by Patchwork Breeze
Driving through the Mountains by Crafty Staci
Snowdon Lily
Mountain by Inquiring Quilter
Boondocking by Scrapdash
Blue Ridge Mountains Appliqué by Sew Worthy Mama
Purple Mountains Majesty by QuiltFabrication
Misted Mountains by Patti's Patchwork
Star
Hiking Bear by Colette Belt Designs
Edelweiss by Tourmaline & Thyme Quilts
Forest Bird by Slightly Biased Quilts
Mountain Forest by Oh Kaye Quilting
Snow Hat by Amanda Harris
Rhododendrom by Emerald Falls Quilts
Log Cabin by Appliques Quilts and More
Take a Hike by Epida Studio
Winter Night by Studio B Quilt
Sedona Red Rocks
Almost Heaven

I like to use different piecing techniques to achieve the look I want for the QBM quilt blocks. Though I try to stick to designing the block for easy assembly, Purple Mountains Majesty is best suited for the Intermediate Quilter.

The technique used for construction is Template Freezer Paper Piecing, for which I have a tutorial walking quilters through the process. It's not traditional paper piecing, but a cousin, which makes stitching this block possible. It really is a simple process once you get the hang of it - I had no issues putting Purple Mountains Majesty together using the technique.

The Purple Mountains Majesty block pattern includes printing instructions for both a 12" and a 10" finished block. You'll need to print the pattern template on the dull side of freezer paper, either cutting your own or using precut sheets like these from the Gypsy Quilter (affiliate link).

Purple Mountains Majesty is free until July 1, 2024. Just click on the download button below for the PDF pattern file.

In downloading the pattern, you agree not to share the file with others, but direct them to the QuiltFabrication.com/Purple Mountains Majesty post - thank you!
