Midweek Makers #450

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Last week, I stretched the orange theme by using cream and brown, colors at the ends of the orange value range. This week, I'm sneaking in a shoe box block of salmon, or coral, if you like.

The color certainly isn't an RSC2024 choice, but once again, it's a necessary color bordering between orange and red.

I also checked for any leftover orange HST's and I had a lot of them! Into six identical broken dishes blocks they went plus one of batiks. That was a lot of HST's leftover from some project!

Now I'm ready to move on to the September color. Given that we've covered all the primary and secondary colors, I'm guessing it will be a variation on one of them. Of course, there's still black, white, and grey but those usually aren't official choices. We shall soon see!

Speaking of color, I'm choosing to feature yellow projects that were shared last week. Yellow certainly makes for cheery quilts!

From Quilting Patch, this fun and colorful baby quilt,

from Viridian's blog, a teal and yellow log cabin quilt,

and from Bell Creek Quilts, a happy double four patch quilt.

National Dog Day 2024

It's National Dog Day - the day to celebrate dogs! Come link up your posts about those special dogs in your life, real or in fabric!

The linky party is open today, August 26, till midnight, Sunday, September 1, with guaranteed cuteness! Who can resist adorable puppies???

I'm sharing more pics of my grand-puppies. When hubby and I visited my son in May to work on their bathroom, Tito became quite attached to us. You can see him sleeping with us, parked up against my rear end. I'm the white lump at the bottom of the picture, laying on my side and curled up to give him room.

He can be quite the bed hog! He loves human companionship and constant attention. There's a reason my son calls him a Velcro dog!

Po, my son's other dog, is much more mellow. He loves his human that's for sure, but he's certainly not a Velcro dog. Instead, he's an all-around great dog!

Now onto dogs in fabric. Over the years, I've designed several dog-themed blocks: a dog bone, a dog house, plus an applique dog block set and a curved pieced dog block.

Add to that list my newer dog block, Puppy Love, inspired this year by National Puppy Day on March 23. This one is a simple 12" appliqued quilt block that really shows the love we have for dogs.

I went even further with the love theme, placing my applique on a background full of hearts. But you can choose whatever kind of background you'd like.

This year's National Dog Day has inspired another new block, my first to-be-seen 12" Paw Prints block!

This one is a take on a Bear Paw block, changing it up a bit. When my Paw Prints blocks are staggered by row in a quilt, it looks like an animal has walked through the quilt - how cool is that?

Alright, we've seen my grand-pups, we've downloaded free patterns, now it's time to see everyone else's dogs - enjoy! Linky open till September 1, 2024.

Midweek Makers #449

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Still cruising through the orange scraps with some fun prints this week. First up is this shoebox full of chicken themed prints, though I'll admit I'm stretching the orange theme a bit. Really, who can resist chickens?

Then an under bed box of my other favorite print theme, fall. There's always some orange there!

And it seems I'm not the only one stitching scraps. Take a look at these scrappy projects shared last week.

From Making a Lather, a scrap quilt,

from Crafts, Cavies and Cooking, this really cute sun hat,

and from Den syende himmel, making fabric from scraps.

Don't forget National Dog Day is August 26 - there's 5 days left to get your dog-themed post ready to share at the linky party. Free downloads for all who stop by! Grab the code below to place on your blog, letting everyone know of this fun yearly event!

Midweek Makers #448

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

I'm still stitching orange scraps together for my Scrap Storage quilt, though this time I went to both ends of the value range. From hardly a hint of orange, also known as cream,

to the opposite end, brown.

Personally, I think the cream block is boring, but as we all know, cream is a workhorse in the quilting world. Definitely cannot be ignored!

Features this week are some fabulous minis - those little quilts that are just for fun! Take a look at the Feet of Goddess Lakshmi from Sew Preeti Quilts,

the beautiful landscape of Enjoying Alaska from Quilting and Learning,

and from Quilting Gail, a very festive turkey for Thanksgiving.

Coming Soon - National Dog Day 2024

Heads up everyone - in just two weeks, we'll be celebrating everyone's favorite fur baby - DOGS! August 26 is National Dog Day, an annual celebration of all things dog!

This fur-themed linky party started in 2021 because of my grand-puppies, Po and Tito. Here they are during their parents wedding celebration, either resting or just bored from being ignored.

Though I actually have a cat, I love my grand-puppies and I'm very happy to make the linky party for National Dog Day a yearly event. It's quite fun to host everyone's adorable puppy, real or in fabric every year - I hope you join us!

Grab the button code below to place on your own blog and help spread the word. Really, who can resist an adorable puppy???

grab button for Nat Dog Day
<div class="nat-dog-day-button" style="width: 150px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="https://www.quiltfabrication.com/" rel="nofollow"> <img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5gW2GyKns-3NRQJygfPImdFV0Oc2nhjIKhEqH72nMeUyOXHtER5pGU_Bc4fq5mnp9AHJCO5SJA9Iu4vQ3GfS5SjJXm3aYtATM44pyN1WMB4CMOaoaixjmX6pbiwTYsZszBiRWI4po9_A/s0/Natl-Dog-Day-Linky-Party150.jpg" alt="Quiltfabrication" width="150" height="150" /> </a> </div>

Now, since dogs respond to 'commands', their owners do to for this dog-themed linky party. Don't worry, they're quite simple:

  • create a NEW dog-themed post about any or all of the following:
           - your beloved tail-wagging, fur-baby pup
           - a new dog-themed project your working on
           - a past dog-themed project
           - anything with a dog theme you would like to share

Just make sure it's a new post and about dogs - it is their day after all! And there's giveaways, this year in the form of free downloads so that more can enjoy the day.

If you're a cat lover, you'll just have to sit this one out. In the past, I've held a October 29 National Cat Day linky party but sadly, participation was low. Seems dog really do rule, so let's see them August 26!

Happy Quilting!

Midweek Makers #447

Welcome to Midweek Makers!

Ah, it's the dog days of summer! Guess that's why National Dog Day is August 26, and once again, I'll be hosting a special dog-themed linky party!

So start thinking about your dog themed post, whether real or in fabric. And as usual, I'll have a freebie!

I don't know about you, but I always associate orange with August, which just happens to be the new RSC2024 color choice. I've got an under-bed scrap box full of orange to show off, with more blocks to come - I do have a lot of orange!

Here's a couple orange-leaning quilts, one from Sew Preeti Quilts

and this one from Making a Lather.

And what color plays nice with orange? Aqua! Not Afraid of Color has delivered on her July aqua RSC2024 block - oh so pretty!

Lipstick for August Quilt Block Mania

Accessories! It's all about the accessories!

Yes, that's the August theme for Quilt Block Mania. I've chosen lipstick as a go-to accessory, definitely one that every women carries around, whether to add some color or just help dry lips. My Lipstick block features three colors: red, pink, and dark magenta. Any one of those is sure to please!

Now, accessories means different things to different people, which is why we have quite the range of blocks for this month - have a look!

Download them for free in August by following each designers link, then have fun making your quilt.

My Lipstick block features foundation paper piecing but is simple enough for a confident beginner to learn. There is a bit of pinning required to make sure the black and gold pieces balance correctly, but otherwise, it's a pretty easy block. I even made it up!

The Lipstick block is no longer free but it is available in my Etsy shop - go get your glam on!

And feel free to tell others about QuiltFabrication and become a follower yourself through any or all of the following: direct delivery of posts to your inbox (sign up below), or by following on PinterestInstagramFacebook, or YouTube.

Happy Quilting!
